Lago de Atitlán is one of Guatemala’s most impressive natural wonders, if not the single most impressive. The lake is over 12 kilometers long, filling a massive volcanic crater in the country’s highlands. Blue-green volcanic water reflects the pointed cones of surrounding volcanoes.
Venture out onto the water on a private kayak tour. The sheer size of the lake makes the paddling here akin to sea kayaking, and you will contend with waves that occasionally pull your attention away from the incredible scenery.
Take a break to dive from cliffs at the edge of the lake. Stop to meet artisans in a village. Breathe in the enormity of the lake and be humbled by nature.
