Wandering upon Bartolome Island feels a little like being on the surface of Mars. Lava tubes twist in random directions. Surreal tuff cones provide more natural artistry. You can instantly see that this was and still is a volcano.
A wooden boardwalk will take you to the island’s summit, where you can take the most famous Galapagos photograph. It’s a famous Galapagos cruise stop and the excitement continues further across the island.
On a dinghy ride around Bartolome you can also see Galapagos penguins diving from the cliffs, sometimes even mating with each other on the volcanic surface.
