A narrow-gauge railway traverses the Chota Valley, twisting through the stark Andean landscapes. Rugged slopes stretch in all directions and there’s a sense of wilderness, as the train rumbles and rattles along.
Recently refurbished, this railway line is a wonderfully relaxed two-hour experience, a chance to explore the Andes from a very comfortable carriage.
Local dancers will perform at the station in Salinas, a nice welcome for when you arrive in the old town. Then you’ll explore the old town with a local guide, including the intriguing Salt Museum.
