The Pacific waves break on the light brown rocks around Carmel-by-the-Sea, and you watch the spray being flung far up in the sky. You are strolling around this picturesque little town.
For a hundred years, it has been an artists’ colony, and a string of famous musicians, painters, actors and writers lived here. One of them was Jack London, who described Carmel in his novel Valley of the Moon. And in more recent days this has been home to Clint Eastwood, who was the town mayor.
On a privately-guided tour you can absorb all the history and even meet some of the famous residents.
