Deep in a landscape of volcanoes and rainforest, along the Congo Border, Semuliki is an unknown gem. It’s a less touristic alternative to going chimpanzee and monkey trekking in Kibale Forest.
There are less chimps and monkeys than in Kibale. They are harder to see because the trails are mostly overgrown. However, you won’t see other tourists and the chimpanzee encounters are remarkable.
Semuliki is your best chance of spotting chimpanzees walking upright. This is where you can really see how humans evolved from chimpanzees, where you can truly appreciate the gap in the evolutionary chain.
