When trekking in the Mahale Mountains there is a moment when time stands still. A chimpanzee is staring at you, thinking, contemplating. There is recognition in his eyes and you know this is a moment that will never leave you.
Now another emerges. Soon an entire troop surrounds you. They eat, play, chatter and go about their day. Some are above you, others are exploring the forest besides you. And there is nobody else here but the guide and trackers.
In the Mahale Mountains National Park you will trek to a habituated chimpanzee troop. They are accustomed to human presence but the experience is always wild, because you are entering their realm.
