During dinner, your guide will tell you about the characteristics and history of fado, and the lives of its most famous singers. 

When dinner is over, the restaurant’s electric lights are put out, and only the candles are left. The fado singers arrive. Just enjoy your wine, and listen. 

Now plaintively, now passionately, they sing to the accompaniment of the Portuguese guitar. The melancholic songs will touch you. You will recognize something of the Arabic or North African sounds in the high tremulous notes. But the nostalgia of it is uniquely Portuguese.
