Pre-Hispanic City of Teotihuacan. Mexico. The holy city of Teotihuacan is situated about 30 miles (50 kilometers) northeast of Mexico City. No one knows who did it but it was built aprox 2,100 years ago. The main and largest monuments are the Temple of Quetzalcoatl and the Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon. Those monuments were laid out on geometric and symbolic principles. The name of Teotihuacan was given to it by the Aztecs and means “the place where the gods were created.”
