Pass the gate and enter the courts of Yogyakarta Palace. Admire the pavilions’ large roofs and verandas, and the intricate ornaments of golden on red. Ask your guide about the sultan. You will discover that Yogyakarta is something unique in the world — a monarchy inside a republic.
Afterwards, head to Bringharjo market and stroll among the fruit, spice and handicraft stands. Then, to two museums: Fort Vredeburg and Sonobudoyo, where you will discover bits of Indonesian history.
Your tour will end around the buildings and pools of what was once a glorious palace, built for the pleasure and repose of the royal family.
