As you follow the winding path through the thick vegetation, you can’t help but notice the soft aromas in the air. Is it cardamom, cloves, nutmeg or cinnamon? It’s likely a blend of all four.
You’ll also come across the leaves of pepper plants and tall coconut palms, for you are walking through a spice plantation in the cool climate and elevated hills of Thekkady. A local family will explain how they grow, harvest and process the spices, as well as the medicinal value that many of the plants possess.
You’ll end the visit with a flavoursome lunch, consuming many of the spices you saw earlier in the day.
