You’ll be taken back to the time of British India as you sit in a first-class carriage of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. As the train begins its slow journey through the rolling, green hills up to the hill station of Darjeeling, you’ll have plenty of time to relax and watch the beautiful scenery pass by.
Originally designed by the British as a summer escape, the two-foot gauge railway has been operating for centuries. If the long journey from Siliguri seems a bit much, there’s the option to take a short round trip from Darjeeling to Ghoom. You can even board one of the original steam locomotives for this shorter journey.
